I get it I've been there...
I've walked down that same road – late-night rides home in cabs, always thinking about the next drink. Letting down the people I cared about, trapped in an endless cycle of drinking and drugs. Spending lonely nights at home, seeking comfort in substances, feeling out of place and uneasy in social situations without them. Struggling to make rent, yet somehow finding money for drugs.
I used to work in an industry where drinking and drugs were seen as okay, and it almost destroyed me. I lived in a world of chaos where I didn't just use alcohol and drugs for fun; I relied on them to handle life. I can still recall one of my last talks with my grandma, who raised me. I was driving home, drunk and high on speed, hysterically crying because I couldn't handle my life anymore. She was an elderly lady of 80, living in another state, and it was 5am in the morning! I felt so powerless... addiction had taken away my control, and I had given up.
But then, something shifted inside me. I summoned the courage to break away from alcohol and drugs, and it completely turned my life around. No more feeling ashamed, full of regret, burdened with guilt, or hating myself. Only my biggest wish is that my grandma could see me now!
